An important success factor for KFC restaurants is the commitment of the KFC chef. He or she is responsible for the perfect preparation of unique KFC recipes. KFC wanted to give this important group of employees visible appreciation to motivate them even more to pay attention to quality, speed and other preparation skills.
Based on the original philosophy of the founder of KFC, Colonel Saunders, The Oval Office developed the employee engagement programme.
In “The Colonel’s Tournament”, a three-month programme, the chefs and their teams were challenged competitively both on knowledge and on skills. Through a single communication strategy (DM, word to mouth, different rounds and photos/videos) with multiple touchpoints over a short time-span, the rest of the organisation was involved. The result was amazing, 85% of branches registered to join, chefs felt motivated to raise the bar and felt sufficiently valued to maintain these standards.
